Search Engine Methodology
8 05 2008Search Engine is an Industry, which is changing everyday. Every day the algorithms are changing .So, it is very important for a Search Engine Optimizer to update him according to the trends. Otherwise it will become very tough for him to compete in this sector.
Keeping the Search Engine trends in mind my approach will be as follows:
1. Market and Keyword Research
2. Search Engine friendly design and easy navigation
3. Proper optimization of Title and Header tag for individual pages
4. Quality Page Content
5. Quality Inbound Links
All the above-mentioned factors are important, but according to the current trends three most important factors are Search Engine friendly design and easy navigation, Quality Page Content and Quality Inbound Links.
Search Engine Friendly Design and Easy Navigation: Search Engine Crawler doesn’t prefer few designing techniques. Such as Frames, Flash intro etc. Some webmasters are using frames and putting contents in to that frame. I have a doubt that whether the crawler is going to read that content or not. Also a flash intro can create an obstruction in the way of crawler when it is crawling the site, which a search engine doesn’t like at all. So it’s better to avoid these things for the smooth crawling. Easy navigation is another thing that search engines prefer a lot. In other words I can say Search Engine prefers those sites, which are made for the users or user friendly. If your site navigation is creating a problem for the users, then this can be a problem for your ranking.
Quality Page Content: Your site must have something unique or some qualities, for which search engine will consider your site for a good listing. The thing, for which a site can be unique or can be consider as a quality site is content. With poor quality and very common content you can’t rank well in Search Engine. Also the content must be highly related to the theme of the site. According to the current trends everyone consider, that for a site “Content is the King”. With junk and irrelevant content a site can never do well. As I mention previously, that Search Engine prefers those sites, which are user friendly. That preference is also applicable here. If you are providing quality content through your site which is helpful for the users, that is good. But if you are doing the same thing with much more frequently that would be great. So moral of the whole content part is, Search Engine prefers fresh, quality and relevant content.
Quality Inbound Links: This is the most important thing when it comes to ranking well in Google. This is the Off Page Optimization Technique. On page optimization can give you a rank, but to retain that position you need quality inbound links. Normally webmasters are following few general methods for inbound links, such as Reciprocal Link Exchange, Links from forums and guest books, Paid links etc. But now days it seems that some devaluation of reciprocal links, forum links and guest book links and in fact paid links are considered to be against Google guidelines. The most valued links are one-ways from related and authority domains. And if you can get links from .edu or .org sites, nothing likes it. I believe these kinds of links are valued the most because authority sites carry with themselves a high level of trust rank and quality score.
But, for a new site it is very tough to get one-way links unless the content is outstanding. So, to start of I would prefer reciprocal link building, and then we can go for one-way links. So, to start of my link building processes include getting links from directories and from other related sites through reciprocal link exchanges. Now it is very important to find out, how to get one-way links. There are few ways to get that, such as:
· Create a useful, interesting web site and other sites will naturally link to it.
· Submit articles to article directories.
· Give away free e-books that contain links to your site.
· Create simple web-based free software. Tell other sites, newsletters and forums about it and ask for a link to it.
· Create downloadable software, which contains links to your site.
· Create a Blog and get it listed in Blog directories.
· Links from Social media sites
I would like to conclude this Inbound Links part by short description about two more things. Anchor Text and Social Media sites.
Anchor Text: The most important factor in inbound link building is anchor text. We have to include primary keywords in the anchor text, so it can be search engine friendly as well as good enough to attract clicks. We can also use multiple variations of anchor texts so as to look natural to search engines.
Social Media sites: This is the latest trend in SEO. Social media sites like Digg, Del.icio.us, Technorati, StumbleUpon, Simpy etc seems to be consider as one of the most important factors in search engine ranking, mainly in Google. But in this area we need to concentrate on some extensive research and experiment to come up with conclusive results. Social Media sites can be an additional boost in the SERPs in coming times.
Finally I would like to conclude the whole thing with another explanation, that is User Behavior.
User Behavior: Since Google started personalized search, they are giving much importance to the behavior of users on a website. Things like CTR, page views, returning visits, visit duration etc seem to have a large impact in the ranking of a site in the Google SERP.As I mentioned earlier that Google prefers user friendly sites, so we have to consider that not only the site ranks well in the search engines, but how it can attracts visitors over and over again is also important.
